Microsoft previously reported that it considers two separate screens to be a more promising and reliable solution than flexible one. However, judging by the new patent, the software giant still bears plans to create a device with a large folding display.
The patent was officially registered at the end of January 2020. In the drawings, you can see the device with one large display. Unlike the same Samsung Galaxy Fold or HUAWEI Mate X, this gadget has a more elongated shape with an aspect ratio of 16: 9 or so.
Unfortunately, the name and dimensions of the product are not disclosed in the patent; instead, only the description of the “swivel joint” is attached. Thus, it can be either a clamshell smartphone in the style of Motorola RAZR 2019 and Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip, or a large tablet that can be folded for easy transportation.
Note that Microsoft in October last year announced the folding device Surface Neo and Surface Duo. Both gadgets are equipped with two screens connected by a hinge.
