On March 31, 2020, WordPress will release this year’s first major upgrade, which comes with WordPress 5.4. The new version brings a lot of improvements, and most of them are directed to the block editor, Gutenberg content editor.
We tested the beta version. Check out some of the new features that come with WordPress 5.4 below.
Table of content:
Gutenberg will see an improvement as a new features and extensions of the current blocks. Good news for developers who can now do even more with blocks inside the editor.
With the new version comes a new welcome guide. It will direct you to the instructions for using the new block editor and to the block library.
WordPress version 5.4. will introduce two new blocks
With the Social icon, you can easily add links to your social networks and to specific posts or pages. The purpose is only to add links to your profiles. Sharing pages or links will still require a social network plugin.
Buttons Block also brings improvements. With the new version it will be possible to add more buttons in the same order, which cannot be done with the current version of WordPress. In addition, you will be able to choose between two styles and specify the desired text and background color. Image is below for a better idea.
Other WordPress updates 5.4.
In addition to the block editor, there are also improvements for individual blocks. In beta, there are several color options for Cover, Group, and Column blocks.
You can change the background and color of text for all blocks within a group block and a column block.
You will be able to load image faster and drag it directly from the folder on your computer to the picture box on WordPress. This will allow you to skip the step of uploading an image between Media files before adding it as a featured image.
Different colors in the same paragraph
In the current version 5.3. you can only change the color of an entire paragraph. With WordPress 5.4. it will be possible to highlight part of the text in the paragraph and change color only to the highlighted part of the text.
The size of the image in the gallery
In WordPress 5.4. you will be able to choose the size of the displayed images from the gallery and choose how many rows to display, etc.
You can easily choose blocks by typing a slash in the text box and typing in whatever you are looking for.
