Despite numerous criticisms, a recent report ensures that Windows 10 is more secure than Android and Linux both. This report covers 2019 year and last decade.
NVD – National Vulnerability Database analysis has shown that Windows 10 has proven to be safer than Android or Linux. Windows 10 compared to Android and Linux has less vulnerabilities both in the last decade, and in 2019. During the past year, the most insecure operating system has been Android with 414 cases. Followed by Debian Linux with 360 and Windows 10 with 357 cases . This is especially interesting, because despite all the errors that are collected with almost every Windows 10 update, it is still below the bugs reported on Android.
But if we set aside last year, and focus on the last decade that goes from 1999 to 2019, Debian Linux takes the lead with 3067 vulnerabilities or technical problems. Followed by Android with 2563 cases, Linux kernel with 2357 and macOS X with 2212 cases . Windows 10 is on last positions with 1111 failures. Totally logical given that it is launched in 2015.
In any case, if we add Windows 10 and Windows 7 with all its failures in the past decade, they are still below Linux and Android. So in general terms Microsoft’s operating system seems to be not as insecure as others.
20 companies that have had the most security bugs
In the same report, we can see 20 companies that have had the most security bugs during the last decade. Microsoft with 6814 bugs, followed by Oracle with 6115 bugs and IBM with 4679. These failures depend a lot on the number of products that these companies have in the market. Linux, Mozilla and Canonical are at the bottom of the list if we look for failures related to product vulnerabilities.
On the end we have most dangerous products installed on our mobile or computer. It appear as the most dangerous products are Adobe Flash Player, followed by Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office.
